Wanted: Steam cylinder information. The Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers, Inc, at Lake Itasca MN, for the last 10 years have been reconstructing a steam-powered sawmill. J. Neil’s Lumber Company constructed this sawmill in 1899 at Cass Lake, MN. The steam engine is a 340 hp Murray-Corliss. Steam is generated by a wood fired fire-tube boiler purchased from the Puget Sound Antique Tractor & Machinery Show at Lynden WA. The power from the steam engine to the line shaft is transmitted via a ˝” thick x 28” wide x 105 ft long belt. The head saw is a band saw with 8 ft diameter band wheels. The blade is 12” wide and 44 ft long. The 46 ft carriage is propelled by a steam cylinder. The cylinder is 10” in diameter and 42 ft long, which has recently been plumbed for steam. We would like any information regarding other steam cylinder propelled sawmill carriages, especially those that might be operating commercially or at shows. At our 2012 show, we had the band saw operating. In 2013, we hope to have the steam powered

carriage operating and sawing lumber. The 2013 show dates will be August 16-18. View sawmill reconstruction at LPTV Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers Show Common Ground, first air date Feb 16, 2012, #319.
